Prosopis L. is a plant genus of ۴۵ species in the family Fabaceae. The species are xerophytic trees or shrubs distributedin tropical and subtropical regions, mainly restricted to the New World, but introduced to different parts of the worldduring last ۱۰۰-۱۵۰years ago. A comprehensive literature search was conducted using Google scholar, SID and Scopusdatabases, with no time or language limits for the papers. Keywords were a combination of Prosopis farcta and abiological activity involving antioxidant, anticancer, antidiabetic etc. altogether, ۴۴ papers were selected for conductingthis review. Prosopis farcta. is an economically and ecologically important subshrub species in the Irano-Turanianregion,. dominating disturbed and degraded soils within its native ranges. It is an spiny shrub up to ۱ m height, withdeciduous, compound and bipinnate leaves, pilose rachis and pedicellate unisexual flowers arranged in spikes givingrise to legumes. P.farcta, known as KAHURAK or JEGHJEGHAK by Iranians, has several medicinal and nonmedicinaluses by local people. Phytochemical composition of different organs of the plant has been provided. A great deal ofstudies have shown that different organs of P. farcta display a wide range of biological activities including antioxidant,antimicrobial, neuroprotective, anticancer, wound healing, hepatoprotective, cardioprotective, and antidiabeticproperties. According to the reviewed literature, it could be concluded that P. farcta is an important economical andecological species and a valuable source of nutraceutical products with high potentials to be considered for futureapplications, regarding the water shortage and dust storm crises in Sistan region.
