چکیده مقاله:

Thermoplastic olefin (TPO) blends based on polypropylene and EPDM rubber, have been used in a wide range of application especially in automotive industry, where mechanical properties, processability and scratch and wear resistivity are necessary. In the present work, nanocomposites based on nanodiamond and PP/EPDM blend have been prepared via melt mixing process. The role of various parameters (such as employing compatibilizer and mixing speed) upon the dispersion of nanodiamond particles in either PP or EPDM phases has been investigated. Rheomechanical spectrometer (RMS) and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMTA) showed enhanced melt elasticity and dynamic modulus for the interfacially compatibilized nanocomposites, which are attributed to the antiplasticizing characteristics of the caged shape nanodiamond particles. More interestingly, nanodiamond particles exhibited plasticizing behavior for the nanocomposite in molten state. Nanoindentation test performed on thesurface of prepared samples revealedsignificant increase in nanomechanical parameters such as hardness (H), stiffness (s) and reduced elasticity modulus ( ) by the incorporation of 5% nanodiamond powder into the PP/EPDM TPO composite.According to these results it can be concluded that the surface indentation resistance of diamond based nanocomposite is much higher than unfilled PP/EPDM blend. Moreover, quantitative analysis of the loading curves of this test provides reliable nanoindentation coefficients, k (mN. ), as the slopes of linear plots that reliably characterize the pristine polymers and are potent interpolation tools.
