چکیده مقاله:

Tomatoes are an important commercial crop for horticulture farmers in Iran. The cultivated area is ۱۶۳۰۰۰ hectares, and the total product is ۵.۸ million tons per year. By using quality seedling, farmers may be able to produce healthier, more uniform and vigorous tomatoes. For getting optimum yield it is important to take care of every production practice starting from nursery stage to harvesting. This study was to determine the effects of three different seedling production methods i.e. open seedbed, seedling tray in the greenhouse, and under plastic tunnel methods. In this experiment, the sowing rates were ۷۲ seeds ۵۰ per cm۲ in an open seedbed, under plastic tunnel and seedling tray methods, whereas seed rate was considered ۷۲ seeds quality to each treatment. Results reveal a significant difference (P<۰.۰۱), in seedling growth parameters in the three methods. The maximum germination was ۹۸.۵ percentage, the highest growth parameters including seedling height ۳۴.۸۸centemeter, fresh and dry weight of aerial parts ۵.۸۸ and ۱gram, fresh and dry weight of root ۰.۵۸۸ and ۰.۰۹۹ gram, root length۱۰.۹۵ centimeter in the seedling tray in the greenhouse treatment. Optimum growth of tomato seedling as observed in the seedling tray with peat moss. Peat moss, due to its appropriate physical properties, such as low bulk density and high total prosperity and its high nutrient exchange capacity constitute one of the main substrate components for tomato seedling production in seedling tray.
