Study of median lethal concentration (LC۵۰ ۹۶h) of copper sulfate on levantine scraper, Capoeta damascina

The purpose of this study was to determine the lethal concentration (LC۵۰ ۹۶h) of copper sulfate (CuSO۴) on levantine scraper, Capoeta damascina. The specimens (۴±۰.۵ g) to determine the ۹۶ h LC۵۰ value of copper sulphate were kept in ۱۵ glass aquaria (۶۰ L capacity). The experiment was set in triplicate and a set of ۵ fish were randomly exposed to each of the ۰.۱, ۱, ۱۰, ۱۰۰ mg L-۱ concentrations. Another set of ۵ fish were also simultaneously maintained in tap water (۰.۰۰ mg L-۱) as the control. The data obtained were statistically analyzed by statistical package SPSS. Fish mortality increased with increasing CuSO۴ concentration during ۲۴ to ۹۶ hours periods. ۲۴-۴۸-۷۲-۹۵ hour’s lethal concentration (LC۵۰-۲۴h) of CuSO۴ on C. damascina was shown ۶.۸۶, ۰.۵۴, ۰.۱۴ and ۰.۲۶ mg L-۱ respectively. Due to the degree of toxicity determined by the amount of LC۵۰ ۹۶h, the CuSO۴ is considered highly toxic to C. damascina.
