چکیده مقاله:

Literary translation has always been a matter of debate among translation scholars, and ideology, as a relatively new concept, has a great impact on literary translation. Therefore, this study was an attempt to find out whether there were any ideological differences between the two Persian translations of the novel "The Old Man and the Sea". Moreover, the present paper attempted to investigate the ideological differences between the two Persian translations of "The Old Man and the Sea" and the original English novel. The study adopted a qualitative research design, and since qualitative research involves non-numerical data collection procedures, this study was descriptive in nature. The corpus for this study consisted of the English novel "The Old Man and the Sea" by Ernest Hemingway (۱۹۵۳), along with its Persian translations by two Iranian translators Daryabandari (۱۹۸۴) and Faramarzi (۲۰۱۶). Out of this corpus, ۵۵ pages were randomly selected for analysis. Data analysis was performed based on Fairclough's (۱۹۸۱) three dimensional framework, which included description of the text, interpretation of the relationship between the text and the interaction, and explanation of the relationship between the interaction and the social context. The two translations were first compared with each other and then with the original novel. The ideologically laden words were extracted and presented in tables. The results of the data analysis show: (۱) ideological differences between the two translations and (۲) ideological differences between the two translations and the original novel.
