چکیده مقاله:

The following essay’s ultimate goal is to unveil the unintentional depiction of two dominant psyche forces that have been coined by Sigmund Freud in his Economic Model as Cathexis and Anti_cathexis in the form of two characters, Lennie and Goerge in the Of Mice and Men. The manifestation of Cathexis or pleasure principle as Lennie and subsequently Anti_cathexis or reality principle as Goerge; whose duty is to contain Lennie in order to keep him from any harm by keeping him from doing any action related to the violation of the norms and codes of the external world or society. unaware of the vitriolic penalties of violating the norms and codes of society Lennie’s boldest wont is to break them. Being capable of recognizing the demands of the society George stands against Lennie’s desires in order to keep the codes of society and desires of Lennie from overlapping. Hence, there are copious verisimilar analogies known in Freud’s Economic model analogous to the depiction of Lennie and Goerge, this essay tries tohighlight those similarities. Also keeping the balance between Cathexis and Anti_cathexis in order to maintain sanity and eventually avoiding destruction of the self is one of the most important reasons leading to Lennie’s unfortunate death. Balance must be held otherwise the formed gap would eventuate the unmitigated dominance of one of them and destruction of the other. Existence of each is prerequisite for the other; pleasure principle or Lennie is the driving force of their relation and without him Goerge ismerely a machine following the rules or while Lennie is a beast following instinctual penchants. This paper will discuss textual proof about unwitting depiction of Cathexisand Anti_cathexis as Lennie and Goerge in the Of Mice and Men.
