چکیده مقاله:

Filmmaking industry around the world and on top of them Hollywood owes much of their glory to the adaptation of popular works of literature. Directors and filmmakers successfully manage to evaluate the taste and the needs of their contemporary audience and choose their target of adaptation based on the context of reception. A brief overview of the Hollywood box office during the past two decades, clearly indicates a new trend in adaptation of a special genre_ fantasy. Although the adaptation of literary works has always been a useful tool for the success of the money making film industry, the same cannot always be said about the adapted work of literature itself. Adaptation usually comes with appropriation__ a process during which many changes and cuts are made on the literary text in order to make it suitable for the silver screen. Using the theories of adaptation and appropriation, this paper intends to analyse the ways in which the original literary text is influenced and affected through the process of adaptation, focusing on Harry Potter series.
