چکیده مقاله:

Due to fresh water shortage in the world, extensive research has been dedicated to development ofalternative water sources. Produced water is considered as the largest volume by-product related with oilproduction operations, which is the saline and polluted water brought to the surface along with crude oilor natural gas. Existent components in produced water can adversely impact on the environment;therefore, the treatment of produced water requires the separation of suspended and dissolvedcomponents, as well as emulsified droplets of oil. Since membrane filtration technologies especiallyforward osmosis are playing a major role in separating these components, the main objective of this paperis to evaluate the forward osmosis (FO) process for the removal of organic contaminants from producedwater. This paper attempts to provide applications of forward osmosis for water reclamation from oilywastewater and drilling mud.
