Brain-computer interface (BCI) systems allow non-movement communication. BCI is a communication mechanism where signals or commands sent to the external world by a person do not move through the usual output pathways of peripheral nerves and muscles of the brain. BCIs must read from the brain directly, provide input in real-time, and rely on deliberate control. Effective high-dimensional robotic system control useful for performing everyday tasks has been achieved by brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) using signals acquired with intracortical implants.
