The Effect of Different Types of Task Repetition on the Grammatical Accuracy

This study aims to explore the facilitative effect of task repetition on developing the accuracy of using English verbal morphemes. The focus of the previous task repetition studies have been primarily on investigating the effect of the same task repetition on accuracy, fluency and complexity of language production. It was paid little attention to whether different characteristics of task repetition have any effect on focusing the learners’ attention on specific form in order to improve the grammatical accuracy. ۵۴ students were randomly selected according to a proficiency test and equally divided into two experimental groups and one control group. All of them were administrated a pretest and posttest. The experimental groups were assigned to one of the same task repetition or content repetition group. The major findings indicated that (a) both type of task repetition were beneficial to improve the grammatical accuracy, (b) There was not any significant difference between the effects of types of task repetition on the students’ performances. Considering the above findings, further support was found for the effect of different task repetition on L۲ learning. The findings contribute to the research that has examined the relation between type of task repetition and grammatical improvement to promote learning.
