Autoimmune Polyglandular Syndrome Type ۲ (APS-۲) in a ۷۰-Year-Old Woman: A Case Report

Type ۲ autoimmune polyglandular (Schmidt) syndrome (APS-۲) is defined by the occurrence of at least ۲ out of ۳ of the following manifestations, Addisonchr('۳۹')s disease, Hypothyroidism and Type ۱ diabetes mellitus. APS-۲ is a rare condition with an incidence of ۱–۲/۱۰۰ ۰۰۰ per year. Prevalence of APS-۲ is most happening in the range of ۲۰-۴۰ years of age. Here we present a patient who complained about loss of appetite with significant weight loss also having trouble with her skin saying she had experienced progressively darkening of the skin all over her body and manifestations of Addisonchr('۳۹')s disease at the age of ۷۰. The patient was treated with oral Prednisolone, Fludrocortisone and Levothyroxine and evaluated after one month which showed the hormonal panel within the normal range.
