The relationship between exposure to Secondhand Smoke and Self-Efficacy and Perceived Barriers of Pregnant Women

Background: The inability of women to demand from their husbands, for not smoking,has been reported as a factor in exposure to cigarette smoke. The aim of this study was toinvestigate the perceived barriers and self-efficacy of pregnant women regardingsecondhand smoke at homeMaterial and Methods: This is cross-sectional study and the sample size was 255 pregnantwomen who visited the Isfahan health care center from Jul 2018 to Sept 2018. A questionnairewas designed to collect the data about the exposure to smoke, perceived barriers and selfefficacy.The data were analyzed by SPSS 18, and Mann-Whitney test.Results: The mean score self-efficacy in the exposure group was lower than the othergroup (p=0.000). The mean score perceived barrier was not a significant difference(p=0.449). The item Lack of "Ban smoking law" at home had the highest mean score inbarriers questions. And this item that "a pregnant woman can, when her husband smoke,is not around him ", has the highest mean score in self-efficacy questions.Conclusions: It is necessary to develop training programs to increase self-efficacy toavoid exposure to cigarette smoke and for both pregnant women and their husbands. Alsoset up "smoking ban law" at home in our country to protect pregnant women.
