چکیده مقاله:

Introduction: Mastalgia or breast pain is one of the most common breast disorders in women. Painful mastalgia can affect a woman’s quality of life as well as her sexual, social and physical activities. Centchroman or ormeloxifene, is relatively new agent that is used for the treatment of gynecological disorders such as mastalgia. Objectives: To investigate the effect of Centchroman on mastalgia and its side effects based on a systematic review of the literature. Methods: The databases were searched in March 2018. Quality assessment of randomized clinical trials was conducted using the The Cochrane Collaboration's tool for assessing risk of bias in randomized trials. The quality of non-randomised studies, was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias Assessment Tool: for Non-Randomized Studies of Interventions (ACROBAT-NRSI).Results: Thirteen studies were included in the study. Among them, 12 studies indicated the significant effect of Centchroman on the reduction of breast pain 3 months after the intervention. Six studies indicated the effectiveness of Centchroman at the end of 6th month. None of the papers reported any serious side effects of Centchroman. Conclusion: Although the results of this study showed that Centchroman. can be useful in relieving mastalgia, Since the meta-analysis was not conducted and the quality of included studies was low, there is no sufficient evidence for judging the effect of Centchroman on mastalgia. Therefore, conducting well-designed randomized controlled clinical trials that compare the effect of Centchroman with the effect of placebo or other medicines on mastalgia treatment is strongly recommended.
