2,3-Dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-ones are an important class of nitrogen-containing heterocyclic One of the most important heterocyclic compounds in medicinal chemistry are quinazolinones that have many biological activities such as antifungal, cytotoxic and antimicrobial1, antimalarial2 and anticancer.3 Quinazolinones are synthesized via condensation of 2-aminobenzamid with aldehydes in the presence of an acidic catalyst. Previously, this reaction have been catalyzed by I2 4, ZnFe2O4 5, nano-Fe3O4/TiCl2/cellulose6 and ammonium chloride.7 The application of inexpensive, ecofriendly and heterogeneous catalysts in organic synthesis have attracted to chemists. Therefor we have prepared a new solid acid catalyst via sulfonation of polystyrene which named polystyrene sulfonic acid (PSSA). We have used polystyrene sulfonic acid in the preparation of quinazolinone via reaction of 2-aminobenzamide and aldehydes (Scheme 1). The structures of obtained products were identified by FT-IR and 1H-NMR. This project has some advantages such as high yield, short reaction times, simple separation of catalyst and easy workup.
