Challenges of applying telemedicine in nursing

Telecommunication technologies are used to create, promote, or accelerate health services. Telemedicine refers to the implementation of nursing measures through telecommunication technology. This technology is considered an emerging phenomenon, one of the sub-branches of remote care; However, there are complications and injuries. Therefore, the purpose of this review study is to investigate the challenges of using distance care in nursing.Methods: The present study is a review study conducted in 1399. This study was conducted on the keywords Telenursing, information technology, and Nursing and Boolean phrase and in Pubmed and Google scholar search databases, on September 2020. Study-related articles based on inclusion criteria (simultaneous existence of both remote care and nursing variables in the study summary and publication date of articles) and exit (lack of access to the full text of articles) were independently reviewed by three researchers used in the present study.Results: Finally, 1953 articles were retrieved, after reviewing the title and abstract, 75 articles were selected, and finally, nine articles were reviewed by reviewing their full text from 2010 to 2020. Nurses were employed in all sample studies. The sample average was 161.5 nurses. 4 articles were descriptive, and two articles were quasi-experimental. One article from the United States (3 articles), Germany (2 articles), and one article from India, Russia, and China. Findings showed that remote care could be used in teaching students via satellite (4 studies), determining the priority of care and treatment by nurses (2 studies), providing nursing activities to patients at home (2 studies).Conclusion: Since telemedicine is a new way of communication, it can provide access to services and cheap and fast delivery regardless of geographical borders. Obviously, due to its virtual form and nature, it needs to identify and observe its ethical considerations; Therefore, identifying its ethical challenges in various fields is very important and needs attention from officials to make the best and most appropriate use of this new form communication.
