چکیده مقاله:

MEMS-based drug delivery systems find lots of applications in current biomedical engineering. Recent advancements in this field have led to the development of advanced methods in drug delivery systems with the highest accuracy and safety, low energy consumption and cost. Micropumps as MEMS-devices play a crucial role in controlled drug delivery to a specific target. In this paper, by describing the disadvantages and limitations of traditional methods of drug delivery, the importance of utilizing MEMS-devices as a new drug delivery method with the ability to overcome the problems of conventional methods of drug delivery has discussed. Afterwards, by reviewing the history of micropump development and investigating different types of actuation principles, some examples of utilization of mechanical micropumps in drug delivery applications has been provided
