Personalized medicine is an exciting and powerful field, offering new tools to deliver better care to patients. The concept of personalized medicine is not new. It back to ancient times, Hippocrates combined an assessment of the four humours—blood, phlegm, yellow bile, and black bile—to determine the best course of treatment for each patient. Avicenna, an Iranian philosopher and physician of the tenth and eleventh centuries (4th and 5th century A.H.) in his book of Canon divided each individual in 4 groups as different temperaments: Cold, Warm, Dry and wet. This time, we know that polymorphisms in DNA sequence may lead to different expression of the encoded protein or to the expression of altered protein, and thus to a different health outcome in conventional medicine the people who suffering from the same disease (phenotype) are considered vs in personalized medicine each individual according to his or her genetic background should be considered the phenotype and treating.
