چکیده مقاله:

The challenges of the decayed neighborhoods in old cities of Iran can be approached from two different angles. The first is lack of harmony with the modern parts and the second is the chaos created inside the neighborhoods due to malfunction of structures .Teahouses as the center of old neighborhoods with different functions ,religious and social, while representing the architecture and social space of neighborhood was the prestigious building of the neighborhood.Based on the markedness theory, teahouses acted as the marked feature od social integration and center-oriented movement while representing the endpoint of paths branched from the different locations in the neighborhood. With the process of decay, the teahouses lost their sense and turned into gathering place for the addicted and even landfills making the space incommensurable .The solutions to regenerate and reform the decayed neighborhoods were taken into two general and particular levels. The first included replacement and revival of old structures with new functionality with the same social interactions.Culturehouses with a modern religious architecture replaced the teahouses to bring the vitality , and education into neighborhoods while representing a new cityscapes.Lack of social supervision as the outstanding feature of this newly established structures can be considered the most remarkable point in the design and functionality of these structures. The physical representation of culturhouses in old neighborhoods has been of interest for certain age ranges of the society and they have not been able to perform as a comprehensive landscape for the elderly. The sense of attachment to these landscapes has been based on the internal activities which are based on closed architecture while the teahouses were enjoying the open architecture. The only difference of new and old landscapes is that teahouses were defined for the adult men and the culturehouse is defined for all different age ranges ,and especially women. The architectural and psychological effects of these new landscapes on the residents of old neighborhoods in keeping the identity and integrity of the neighborhood were investigated in two cities of Iran,Hamedan and Arak, to find solutions in the efficacy of modern landscapes in old neighborhoods.
