Different studies on safflower under dryJand condition has been showed that autumn planting always has more grain yield comparing with spring planting in Iran. Due to high adaptabiliry, safflower can be use jn rotation with wheat and: in chickpea. To evaluate advance safflower varieties on farmer fields this study carried out with 6 promising varietjes with in one check (Zarghan 279) in autumn planting in three locations of Khorasan province viz Faruj, Bojnord and Shirvan under dry land condition. Each variety was planted in 8 rows with 6 m length and 25 em row spacing. Experimental' design was RCBD with 3 replications. The results showed that CH-5 had the highest seed yield and oil percentag in Shirvan (464 Kg/ha and 28.58%, respectively) and Faruj (1377 Kg,lha). Zarghan 279 (check variety) had the lowest seed' yield and oil percentag in Shirvan and was 2 th and 7 th variety in seed and oil yield in Faruj, This variety had the'. lowest oil content in all locations. So Zarghan 279 (check variety) is not suitable variety for autumn planting in dryland condjtions in these areas. CH-5, PI.250537 and PI-537636 are recommended to planting as autumn crop in these areas.
