خلاصه مقاله:
Onobrychis is an important genus of Fabaceae family which has over annual and perennial species in Iran. Most of the species are valuable range plants with high forage value. These are used directly or as dried forage material to feed animals. Some species are planted in dry farming system in the areas with over mm precipitation. Cold resistance and adaptability to different environmental conditions are among the main characteristics of the Onobrychis genus. The seed samples of various accessions of Onobrychis species in particular those with low germination rate- available in the gene - - bank of natural resources of Iran- were subjected to different treatments to increase their germination percentage. Different durations of prechilling, hot water, seed coat removal vs. untouched coating, mechanical scarification and different photoperiods were applied. Fifty seeds in four replications were investigated in each treatment. All procedures were replicated for those seed accessions which didn't respond positively to the treatments because of secondary dormancy, immature embryos, physiological dormancy and postripening. Results indicated that seed coat removal and days chilling in degrees centigrade as being the best treatments to increase germination rate for incoming dormant seeds. Key words: Onobrychis, Germination, Seed dormancy
