Nan fluids , as a kind of new engineering material consisting of nanometer -sized additives and base fluids , have attracted great attention of investigators for its superior thermal properties and many potential applications. There are many features of nano -fluids , such as enhancement of heat transfer improvement in thermal conductivity , increase in surface volume ration , brownian motion, thermophoresis etc. over the decade ago , researches focused on measuring and modeling the effective thermal coductivity and viscosity of nano-fluid . heat transfer characteristics of nano-fluids with nano-particles suspended in water are studied using alumina AL2O3 nano particles. a transient hot - wire apparatus is used for measuring the thermal conductivity of nano-fluids. the thermal conductivity of nano-fluids is measured and found to be substantially higher than the values of the base fluids. the thermal conductivity of nano-fluids was also observed to be strongle dependent on temperature .
