چکیده مقاله:

the present work investigates the laboratory applications for portable rock strength evaluation device in drilling industry. RSD is used for evaluation of some major rock mechanical parameters such as specific energy and internal friction angle of the rock using scratch test methodology . two different types of polycrystalline cutters known as sharp and blunt are used for scratch test . a high performace bit - rock interaction model referred to as D&D model is used for analyzing data obtained from RSD machine. using RSD one can determine rock mechanical parameters such as uniaxial compressive strength UCS and internal friction angle of the rock in different size and strength specifically for unconsolidated shale samples and damaged cores in a cost effective way compared to conventional tests like UCS triaxial and etc. this tool is also capable of generating strength variations curve in order to detect weak and heterogeneous sections along the sample under the test. the RSD machine has a wide range of applications in laboratory and field scales and can be recognized in different industries such as oil , mining , tunneling , construction materials and even in archeology . however bit design well completion strategy policy and drilling fluid designation are the most important RSD's drilling related applications which are covered in the present paper technically.
