چکیده

Self-healing materials are polymers, metals, ceramics and their composites that when damaged through thermal, mechanical, ballistic or other means have the ability to heal and restore the material to its original set of properties. Few materials intrinsically possess this ability. The main topic of this paper is study the mechanical behavior and engineering applications of these materials. The ability of materials to self-heal from mechanical damage has significance in the field of fracture and fatigue. Crack creation in materials structures including composites is one of the most common failure reasons of those materials. On the other hand, inspection and maintenance techniques in different materials are difficult and expensive. This is an emerging and fascinating area of research that could significantly extend the working life and safety of the polymeric components for a broad range of applications. a material which can intrinsically correct damage caused by normal usage could prevent costs incurred by material failure and lower costs of a number of different industrial processes through longer part lifetime, and reduction of inefficiency caused by degradation over time. Thus, increasing the longevity of the matter, reducing maintenance costs and improving safety is among the characteristics of this material. In this paper, history, evolution ,utilization in the different industry and researchers results of self-healing materials are explained.
