چکیده

The cooling airflow inside a single stator duct of an electric machine has been numerically investigated. The computational domain consists of 1/18 sector of a stator duct in the tangential direction which is connected to outer cylinder of an annulus with a rotating inner cylinder. Fully developed turbulent flow, both hydrodynamically and thermally, enters the computational domain in which a fraction of this flow enters the stator ducts and cools down the stator ducts walls. Simulations are performed for a range of axial Reynolds number ReA=vADh/v and rotational Reynolds number Rew=Dh/v of 6.58 ×104 - 1.37 × 105 and 7.19 × 104 - 1.80 × 105, respectively. The numerical simulation is carried out for twelve sets of axial and rotational Reynolds number combinations and for each set, the flow rate ratio which enters the stator duct and its cooling effects are studied. It has been shown that the heat transfer coefficient on the upstream and downstream walls varies significantly with each other at the inlet area of stator duct but after a distance, their value becomes almost similar.
