چکیده

In this research, an integration of analytical and numerical approaches is employed to develop a new engineering technique for optimal designing of leaf spring landing gears for light aircrafts. To the best knowledge of the authors', there is no paper in the open literature regarding the detail design of composite leaf spring landing gears. To address this issue, first a procedure for detailed design of leaf spring landing gears using the principle of conservation of energy, first order shear deformation theory and finite element method is developed. New method considers the requirements of the certification specifications standard for light aircrafts (CS-VLA). Next, as a case study, two leaf spring landing gears for a light aircraft are designed by using unidirectional S/glass composites and aluminum alloys for evaluation and comparison purpose. Finally, LSDYNA software is employed to simulate a drop test for composite designed landing gear numerically. Comparison between results, obtained by LS-DYNA software and developed technique in this research, showed a reasonable correlation in terms of load factors, deflections and stresses.
