Study on the seasonal changes of the growth pattern of the Kura loach, Oxynoemacheilus brandtii (Kessler, 1877), in the Soufichai stream40T, Iran

Growth patterns are widely used in stock management and species conservationprograms. There are a little well documented biological studies on the Kura loachOxynoemacheilus brandtii. In this study, the seasonal changes in growth pattern ofthis species in the Soufichai stream were analysed during April 2011 to September2012. In total, 322 specimens of Kura loaches were caught using seine net, with amesh size of 2 mm Total length, total weight, and b-value were determined. Themean total length and weight were 53.94 ± 12.77 mm and 1.12 ± 0.84 g, respectively.Length-weight relationship was estimated as W = 0.004L3.221 for males, W =0.005L3.125 for females and W = 0.004L3.155 for the population. Growth pattern wereseparately measured for both sexes. The b-value were 3.22 and 3.12 for males andfemales, respectively. Despite Inter-sexual variation, the growth pattern were positiveallometric for both sexes.
