Catalysts play an important role in the chemical reactions, so the design and synthesis of new catalysts is of great importance. Transition metal ferrites (MFe2O4, M = Cu, Ni, Zn, etc.) contain the spinel structure have been considered in detail due to their chemical, thermal and mechanical stability [1]. Ferrites are attractive in a wide arrangement of usage in drug delivery systems [2], electronics [3], magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) [4] and catalysts [5]. In particular, ferrites are used as catalysts [6] and photocatalysts [7] in organic reactions. Hollow nanostructures are a class of special nanomaterials being named on the basis of their morphologies. When serving as an adjective, the word hollow means having a hole or empty space inside. Hollow nanostructures can be classified, into various groups from different appearances. For example, there could be hollow spheres, tubes, fibers, boxes, etc. On the basis of the number of outer shells, they can be termed as single, double, and multi-shelled (or walled) hollow structures [8]. In this research, we hope to report a method for the synthesis of hollow nanostructured magnesium, copper, ferrite using ferric chloride, copper chloride and magnesium chloride as reactants and glucose as a chelating agent. The catalyst prepared and characterized by using FT-IR, XRD, SEM, EDX and VSM techniques. In addition, the catalyst was used in the preparation of pyrano [2,3,d] pyrimidinone derivatives under thermal condition and ethanol as solvent. The obtained pure products were characterized by melting points, FT-IR and 1H NMR analyses.
