Nitrate is produced in different ways and because it is highly soluble in water and non-reactive, so it is found throughout the environment and poses a major health risk to humans and animals. Conventional water treatment methods cannot remove it, so advanced treatment methods are required. In this study, the performance of two zeolite and montmorillonite nanoparticles in the removal of water-soluble nitrate by bath and adsorption methods was investigated. The optimum values for both nanoparticles were determined by testing the effect of adsorbent concentration, pH, temperature, and contact time. By studying the thermodynamic equations, Gibbs free energy, enthalpy and entropy of reactions were determined. Experiments for both nanoparticles were obtained spontaneous, exothermic, and disordered. Also, the pseudo-second-order equation fitted better than the other equations to describe the data. Finally, the adsorption isotherms were investigated and the Langmuir isotherms were characterized to better describe the data of both nanoparticles. The adsorption capacity of the two zeolite and montmorillonite nanoparticles was 9.96 and 4.03 mg / g, respectively.
