چکیده

Due to increasing environmental and economic cost of fossil fuels, alternative sources of energy are needed. One such alternative is the energy of wind harvested by wind turbines which are often grouped together to form a wind power plant, also known as a wind farm. The wind farms can be installed offshore or onshore. Several prototypes or projects for offshore are returning to the concept of two-blade downwind turbines. In this paper, after a brief introduction of the characteristics of offshore and onshore wind farms and comparing them, the characteristics of two-bladed and three-bladed architectures for a turbine are discussed and compared. The advantages of two-blade turbines over the traditional three-blade turbines are then presented in a more detailed manner and associated constraints are investigated.
