چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim : Burn as a global problem is always considered by health specialists to develop preventive programs, especially in high-risk groups. This study was designed to investigate the effect of education on knowledge of primary school students about prevention and taking initial actions in dealing with burns. Methods : This is a semi-experimental study conducted on primary school students. The sampling was done by cluster method in six boys’ and girls’ public schools (fourth to sixth grade) in 3 different regions of Tehran including 3, 6 and 17. Data was collected by the data registration form in all educational levels. The data was included a demographic part and seventeen questionnaires for assessing students awareness about prevention and primary measures in burns. The validity and reliability of the questions were confirmed in a pilot study on fifteen students, as well as by experts. An educational scenario was written by specialist based on lesson plan and the content of the questions. Then the scenario in the form of magnetic board and stickers was designed and made by Tri-D print. The training was conducted by two experts who were familiar with child education in schools. The level of the students’ knowledge was evaluated before, immediately and three months after the training intervention by the checklist. The data output was analyzed by SPSS v. 21. Results : The results showed that the knowledge score in both domains of prevention and primary measures significantly increased immediately and three months after training. (P<0.05) Also, there was a significant relationship between knowledge score in both domains with gender, educational level and education area after intervention. Female students with higher educational levels in three and six areas had better knowledge scores. (P<0.05) Conclusion : Education is effective on raising knowledge about prevention and initial actions in burn among students. Therefore, it is suggested to repeat educational programs as well as educating parent and students simultaneously and using media to change beliefs and attitudes that are rooted in the culture of the societies, especially the lower levels.
