چکیده مقاله:

Traditional assessment methods such as standardized multiple choice tests are the current tools used for measurement of student proficiency. But, can you really measure whether students have mastered, or are proficient, in a subject by their score on one multiple choice test traditional standardized tests have been criticized for removing the human element and restricting communication between students and teachers; for eliminating the opportunity for students to draft and to revise their work; and for not allowing students to participate in choosing work that would better represent their abilities. The changes in education objectives lead to a change in assessment. Portfolio assessment has been implemented in many core disciplines for quality assurance and consistent assessment of learner outcomes. For English language learning, for which varying proficiency levels of learners exist, portfolios are suggested to assess individual learners’ progress. The aims of this research are to define the student portfolio, to describe the possible ways of implementing a portfolio project specifically in the English language classroom, to show teachers how to encourage their students create realistic portfolios of what these students know and can do, and to discuss how portfolios can be used as a practical and authentic form of student assessment.
