Iterative Back Projection based Image Resolution Enhancement

In this paper, we propose a new super resolutiontechnique based on the interpolation followed by registering themusing iterative back projection (IBP). Firstly the low resolutionimage is interpolated and then decimate it to four lower lowresolution images. The four low resolution images areinterpolated and registered by using IBP in order to generate asharper high resolution image. The proposed method has beentested on Lena, Elaine, Pepper, and Baboon. The quantitativepeak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and structural similarity index(SSIM) results as well as the visual results show the superiority ofthe proposed technique over the conventional and alternativeimage super resolution techniques. For Lena’s image, the PSNRis 6.21 dB higher than the bicubic interpolation.
